BioStorage Technologies to Lead Discussion on the Value of a Comprehensive Sample Management Strategy

INDIANAPOLIS, May 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- BioStorage Technologies, a global provider of comprehensive sample management solutions for the bioscience industry, including storage, cold chain logistics and virtual sample intelligence, will host its European Global Sample Management Benchmarking Symposium on 22 May 2012 in Brussels, Belgium from 16:00 – 18:00 (GMT +1).

Moderated by Dr. Graham Hughes, Consultant in Pharmaceutical Development and Editor of International Clinical Trials, the symposium will focus on the future of clinical research in Europe, specifically the role comprehensive sample management plays in supporting novel research. Led by a panel of four industry experts, the symposium will also highlight the importance of establishing a comprehensive sample management strategy to support the development of pharmacogenomics research, novel biomarkers, new drug therapies and companion diagnostics. Additionally, the speakers will discuss emerging models and processes for the optimization of sample assets to leverage research samples and support future drug development.

"Clinical trials are becoming more complex year on year. Likewise the use of increasingly sophisticated biomarkers mandates that research samples taken in the course of clinical trials will require innovative methods and technologies for optimizing their use, so as to develop the clinical trials market further in Europe," said Hughes.

The panel consists of the following:

  • Alexander Roussanov, Associate, Hogan Lovells International LLP, Brussels – "The Future of Clinical Trials in Europe: Upcoming Revisions to the EU Clinical Trials Directive"
  • Hyung Park, Director Translational Development Operations, Celgene – "Comprehensive Sample Management in Translational Research: How to Develop Strategies and Metric Tracking to Advance Personalized Medicine"
  • Agnes Rivaille, Scientific Affairs Director – Europe, PRA International – "Prospective and Retrospective Sample Management: How to Manage Sites and Leverage Sample Assets to Support Clinical Research"
  • Steve Sweeney, Head of Clinical Technologies, Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc."Virtual Sample Management: How to Leverage Technology to Improve Sample Asset Utilization and Research Results"

The symposium is being held in partnership with the 9th Annual Partnering with Central Labs, ECG and Imaging Labs conference on 23 – 24 May 2012. For more information on the Global Sample Management Benchmarking Symposium, visit www.biostorage.com/symposium.
