Following a successful inspection by the German health authorities in July 2013 ChemCon received the approval required to manufacture semi-solid pharmaceuticals (gels and creams for topical therapy) for human use. This was an important step for the expansion of ChemCon’s service portfolio and will allow us to reach new customer groups.
ChemCon is now able to offer services along the entire development chain for pharmaceutical products. This includes the early R&D stages of drug development, the transfer of the manufacturing process to production under GMP conditions and the production of drug product samples for clinical trials. Both the placebo and active treatment arms of clinical trials are covered by this approval. We can save our customers time and money by aiding them during all the interlinked development phases required for new pharmaceutical products.
A recent project involved the production of both the placebo and the active ingredient for phase II clinical trials. First, the manufacturing of the API und GMP conditions was completed, followed by creation of both placebo and API containing gel samples. These samples were randomized by ChemCon and delivered to the clinical trials center. The API was based upon a tellurium complex which possesses anti-viral properties, especially against papillomaviruses. This was one of the first tellurium complexes used medically and represented pioneering work by ChemCon.
