Gaelic, Athlone Complete First Phase of Post-Merger Integration

Gaelic Laboratories and Athlone Laboratories have completed the first phase of their post-merger integration, aligning key systems and capabilities following their December 2025 horizontal acquisition that combined Ireland’s sole GMP-approved manufacturers of beta-lactam antibiotics. The initial integration steps have met corporate synergy objectives as the partners move to strengthen their market positions, enhance capabilities and leverage operational efficiencies across their combined business.

A new joint website now outlines the companies’ complementary services and serves as a practical framework for a unified service offering. Both Gaelic and Athlone are established GMP-approved manufacturers with strong reputations in beta-lactam antibiotics, producing a broad range of oral products that support demand for critical medicines in Ireland, as well as the UK and EU, the Middle East and North Africa, Canada and Australia. The site provides customers and partners with a consolidated view of manufacturing capabilities across antibiotic classes, finished product formulations and dosages, packaging services, contract analytical services and regulatory expertise in multiple regions.

Operational efficiencies are already emerging as the organizations have aligned and consolidated administrative systems, including IT, compliance and supply chains. An internal communications initiative, highlighted by the launch of a new newsletter, “The Capsule,” has been implemented at Athlone to improve internal communication, support cultural alignment and provide reassurance of continuity during the leadership transition.

Company leadership said the integration confirms that anticipated synergies are beginning to materialize, with a seamless transition for customers and partners. The combined entity aims to further strengthen the beta-lactam antibiotic supply chain in Ireland and across Europe by making more effective use of shared assets, facilities, capabilities and skilled personnel. Phase 2 of the integration is already underway and will focus on further optimizing manufacturing processes to drive greater efficiencies across both sites.
