Adragos Pharma Kawagoe Signs Agreement with Towa Pharmaceutical for Strategic Collaboration to Support Supply of Off-Patent Medicines

Adragos Pharma Kawagoe K.K. announced the signing of an agreement with Towa Pharmaceutical to establish a strategic collaboration aimed at ensuring the stable supply of off-patent pharmaceuticals. Under the agreement, Adragos Pharma will manufacture and supply up to 1.5 billion tablets per year for Towa Pharmaceutical from its Kawagoe plant in Japan.

Leveraging this partnership, Adragos Pharma will accelerate capital investment at the Kawagoe plant and undergo a staged expansion to increase annual solid-dosage capacity from the current 1 billion tablets, to 2.5 billion tablets. Through the agreement, and the structuring of shared supply and demand forecasts, the two companies will work to ensure a stable supply of medicines for the market.

Speaking on the agreement, Masanori Kurogome, Representative Director, Adragos Pharma Kawagoe K. K. commented, “Our collaboration with Towa Pharmaceutical represents an important partnership in supporting the stable supply of off-patent medicines. Through capital investment at our Kawagoe plant, we will further strengthen our production and quality assurance systems and, with quality as our highest priority, contribute to a more stable domestic supply of medicines. At the same time, this partnership will support the continued enhancement of our capabilities as a CDMO and our sustainable growth.”

The 16,900-square-meter facility at Kawagoe, to the northwest of Tokyo, has a history of over 50 years of manufacturing and supplying tablets and ampoules for the Japanese market and currently employs over 330 staff. It also has one of Japan’s largest cold-storage warehouses, providing supply chain management solutions for country’s pharmaceutical market.
