Genoskin to Open Larger Salem Lab for Local Mast Cell Production

Genoskin plans to double its US footprint with a move to a new 8,000‑square‑foot laboratory and office facility in Salem, Massachusetts, to launch local primary human mast cell production for North American customers. The company, which develops ex vivo human skin platforms for testing injectable drugs and implanted devices, said the expansion is intended to meet rising US demand for predictive human immune cell models and follows a 50% increase in mast cell manufacturing capacity at its French site.

The new Salem facility, expected to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2026, will replace a 4,000‑square‑foot site with limited Biosafety Level 2 capabilities. It is designed for commercial‑scale production of primary human immune cells and will include dedicated BSL‑2 cell culture labs, quality control and analytical areas, shipping and receiving infrastructure, storage, and space for scientific and operational staff. Producing cells closer to customers is expected to reduce shipping delays, improve supply continuity and shorten delivery times, while complementing existing manufacturing in France and strengthening transatlantic business continuity.

Genoskin highlighted growing use of mast cell‑based assays in preclinical development to study immune activation, cytokine release, hypersensitivity risk and inflammatory responses, especially in the context of allergies and mast cell‑mediated diseases such as chronic spontaneous urticaria, atopic dermatitis and asthma. The company’s mast cells are produced from blood‑derived CD34+ progenitors using a standardized workflow and validated to confirm mature mast cell identity and function, with high viability after shipment to support use as ready‑to‑integrate research products. The Salem expansion forms part of a broader growth plan funded by an $8 million financing round in 2025 and includes investments in advanced cell culture and analytical equipment, workforce growth and global commercial expansion.
