Codis has agreed to acquire Catalent Pharma Solutions’ Nottingham, UK facility, adding oral solid dose development and small-scale manufacturing capabilities to its contract development and manufacturing operations.
The transaction, expected to close in the third quarter of 2026 pending customary conditions, will expand Codis’ footprint in spray drying and particle engineering. The Nottingham site has more than 20 years of experience in formulation development, clinical supply, and development-scale spray drying.
The acquisition complements Codis’ existing commercial-scale spray drying operations in Haverhill, UK, where the company is investing in a new GEA PSD-4 spray dryer expected to be validated in 2027. Together, the two sites are intended to support integrated development and manufacturing workflows, spanning early formulation through clinical and small-scale commercial production.
Spray drying is widely used to improve the solubility and bioavailability of small-molecule drugs, particularly those with poor water solubility. However, transitioning from early-stage formulation to commercial-scale manufacturing remains a challenge for developers.
By combining formulation development, analytical services, and manufacturing within a single organization, Codis aims to address these scale-up challenges and streamline development timelines.
The Nottingham facility will also add capabilities in oral solid dose development, further expanding Codis’ service offerings beyond intermediate production.
The deal reflects ongoing consolidation and capacity expansion among CDMOs focused on specialized technologies such as amorphous solid dispersions and particle engineering. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
