Redwire Corporation has opened a new 30,000 square foot, state-of-the-art research and microgravity payload development facility in Georgetown, Indiana, designed to accelerate space-enabled R&D and manufacturing with a focus on next-generation drug development and human health breakthroughs. The vertically integrated site will serve as a global hub as the company expands its leadership in space-based research, development, and production for pharmaceutical and biotech partners.
Located at the Novaparke Innovation & Technology Campus in Floyd County, the facility houses advanced engineering and scientific laboratories and includes Redwire’s own Payload Operations Control Center, which will function as the central command post for real-time oversight of science and research operations on the International Space Station. The site also serves as a key operational base for Space Microgravity Development LLC (SpaceMD), Redwire’s venture focused on leveraging microgravity to drive innovation in biotech and other sectors.
Redwire Space President Mike Gold said the Georgetown facility is the cornerstone of the company’s ability to scale and support major programs worldwide, helping shape an expanding orbital economy that advances human spaceflight while delivering benefits on Earth. He noted that breakthroughs from the site are expected to support NASA missions, enable life-changing discoveries for pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and spur new materials innovations from semiconductors to fiber optics.
Redwire marked the grand opening on July 20, 2026, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Indiana Governor Mike Braun, Redwire Chairman and CEO Peter Cannito, Mike Gold, SpaceMD CEO John Vellinger, and former NASA astronauts Charlie Walker and Ken Bowersox.
