AsymBio has begun construction of a new R&D building at its Shanghai Fengxian site, a move the company said will strengthen its biologics CDMO capabilities and support a full-lifecycle, one-stop service ecosystem.
Construction started in May 2026, and the eight-story building is expected to be completed and officially commissioned in the second half of 2027. The facility will cover nearly 20,000 square meters of gross floor area on about 2,500 square meters of land and will be built to green and low-carbon construction standards.
The new site will support cell line development, upstream and downstream process development, conjugation process development, drug product development and analytical development services. It will sit alongside AsymBio’s clinical and commercial manufacturing facilities for antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates, creating a dedicated R&D hub within the Fengxian site.
AsymBio said the building will work closely with the site’s production lines to streamline scale-up and commercial manufacturing while shortening project timelines. The company said the project is intended to deepen integration between research and manufacturing and improve continuity across development stages.
The building will also serve as the core physical base for AccPCC, AsymBio’s Accelerated PCC platform. The platform is designed to shorten the timeline from lead selection to preclinical candidate selection through an end-to-end, AI-enabled workflow. It connects early R&D and CMC work with nonclinical evaluation and early clinical translation.
According to CEO Rui Yang, effective biologics development requires earlier engagement, integrated scientific and CMC decision-making, and manufacturability planning from the outset. He said the Fengxian R&D building will help reduce handoffs, improve development efficiency and give clients greater clarity and confidence in complex programs.
