Altasciences has completed an expansion of the research and development laboratory at its drug product formulation and manufacturing facility in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, adding about 768 square feet of new lab space. The company said the project is designed to bring formulation development and analytical testing together in a single, integrated environment to better support early-stage drug development.
By consolidating these functions, Altasciences aims to accelerate decision-making, streamline workflows and strengthen collaboration across scientific disciplines. The upgraded lab supports phase-appropriate, target product profile–driven formulation screening tailored to different therapeutic areas and routes of administration, while remaining modality-agnostic. Capabilities include formulation development for small molecules, peptides and complex modalities, as well as preparation of non-GLP and GLP toxicology samples for nonclinical studies.
Anuji Abraham, senior director of pharmaceutical development for CDMO services, said the expansion strengthens Altasciences’ focus on early-stage integration and brings its CDMO capabilities to clients earlier in the drug development journey. Abraham added that the integrated setup enhances continuity across nonclinical and clinical programs and helps sponsors move through key development milestones more efficiently.
Altasciences said the enhanced laboratory also incorporates advanced screening models and integrated analytical testing to support nonclinical and clinical readiness and enable real-time formulation decisions. Operating in a non-GLP R&D environment, the lab gives clients flexibility to design and optimize products before transitioning into regulated studies.
Co-chief operating officer Robert Sabelli said the expansion reflects not only physical growth but also ongoing investment in scientific talent to connect capabilities earlier in the development cycle and better support clients and patients.
