Lonza Launches Rapid Custom Media Prototyping Service for Cell Culture

Lonza has launched a rapid custom media prototyping service designed to help life sciences customers accelerate early-stage development of cell culture media formulations.

The new offering is intended to support researchers and manufacturers working with cell-based processes by enabling faster testing and refinement of customized media. Lonza said the service combines its expertise in cell culture technology, media development and manufacturing with a streamlined prototyping approach.

Custom cell culture media can play an important role in research, process development and biomanufacturing by providing the nutrients and conditions needed to support cell growth, productivity and product quality. Lonza said its rapid prototyping service is designed to help customers evaluate media formulations more efficiently before moving toward larger-scale development or commercial production.

The service is expected to provide customers with access to tailored media prototypes in shorter timelines than traditional development approaches. Lonza said the initiative aims to reduce development complexity and help organizations make informed decisions earlier in their programs.

The company will use its scientific and technical capabilities to develop prototypes based on customer-defined requirements. The service will support work across a range of applications that rely on cell culture, including biopharmaceutical development and production.

Lonza said the program is built to offer flexibility as customer needs evolve. Early-stage access to customized formulations may help companies assess the performance of cells and processes under different conditions before committing to larger manufacturing campaigns.

The launch reflects growing interest in approaches that can accelerate development timelines and reduce risk in biologics manufacturing. By enabling rapid evaluation of custom media options, Lonza said the service can support customers seeking to improve process performance and move projects forward more efficiently.

The company did not disclose pricing, availability timelines or specific customer programs associated with the new service. It said the offering is part of its broader work in cell culture media and services for the life sciences industry.
