Symbiosis Pharmaceutical Services has appointed Jay Chima as vice president of business development as the aseptic fill-finish contract development and manufacturing organization expands its commercial team amid growing demand for biologics, advanced therapies and specialized medicines.
Chima brings more than 16 years of commercial experience to the role. Based in London, he will work across Symbiosis’ commercial organization to strengthen relationships with existing customers, develop new strategic partnerships and provide market insight to support the company’s growth and future investment plans.
He joins Symbiosis from Recipharm, where he served as business development director. Previously, he held senior commercial roles at MedPharm and Advanz Pharma, gaining experience working with emerging biotechnology companies as well as global pharmaceutical groups.
Symbiosis said the appointment reflects continued expansion in the pharmaceutical outsourcing sector, driven by demand for manufacturing partners with technical expertise, regulatory capabilities and flexibility across development stages.
Chima said the market is changing as biologics, advanced therapies and specialized medicines gain prominence. He said these programs require manufacturing partners that can support complex development and commercial needs while remaining responsive to customers.
He cited Symbiosis’ combination of technical capabilities, delivery record, agility and customer focus as factors in joining the company. Chima said the CDMO is positioned to support complex programs and commercial ambitions while providing the level of attention sought by drug developers.
Joanne Anderson, Symbiosis’ chief commercial officer, said Chima has a record of developing strategic partnerships, identifying growth opportunities and delivering commercial results across pharmaceutical sectors.
His experience with both biotechnology companies and global pharmaceutical organizations provides an understanding of customers’ differing challenges at various development stages, Anderson said.
The appointment follows a period of investment and growth at Symbiosis. The company has undertaken a £26 million expansion program that increased sterile manufacturing capacity, enhanced technical capabilities and strengthened infrastructure for a wider range of clinical and commercial manufacturing programs.
Symbiosis is a specialist aseptic fill-finish CDMO. The company said its investments are intended to support customers developing medicines across the biopharmaceutical industry, including therapies with the potential to improve patient outcomes.
Chima said he is joining during a period in which Symbiosis is investing for growth and seeking to help more customers bring new medicines to patients.
