Lifecore Biomedical has signed an agreement with an undisclosed global pharmaceutical company to transfer manufacturing of a currently marketed injectable drug product, adding what the company expects could become one of its largest commercial contracts.
Under the agreement, Lifecore will perform technical-transfer services to prepare for commercial production of the drug product. The company expects the program to begin contributing commercial revenue in 2028.
Financial terms, the identity of the pharmaceutical company, the product name, therapeutic area, expected production volume and projected revenue were not disclosed.
The program is Lifecore’s seventh late-stage commercial program and the eleventh addition to its development pipeline in 2026. The company said the agreement advances its plan to add higher-impact programs to its commercial manufacturing pipeline.
Lifecore is a contract development and manufacturing organization focused on injectable medicines. The company said the transferred product has a complex, high-viscosity formulation, a category it views as aligned with its technical and manufacturing capabilities.
Technical transfer generally involves moving the knowledge, processes and specifications needed to manufacture a product from one organization or manufacturing site to another. Lifecore said it will use the transfer process to support commercial production of the established injectable treatment.
The company said its late-stage pipeline now contains 13 programs that could generate commercial revenue by the end of 2028. The newly announced product is expected to be among those programs, assuming the transfer and manufacturing ramp proceed as planned.
Paul Josephs, Lifecore’s chief executive officer, said the agreement reflects the company’s effort to build a commercial organization capable of supporting complex manufacturing processes. He said the company is pursuing programs that can provide sustained revenue growth while expanding its customer relationships.
Lifecore described the customer as a global pharmaceutical company and said the agreement establishes another potentially significant relationship. The company did not provide details on whether it will receive separate payments for technical-transfer work before commercial manufacturing begins.
The transaction adds to Lifecore’s 2026 pipeline expansion and places another marketed product in preparation for production at the company’s facilities.
