Summit Acquires Dallas Research Institute Through Pinnacle Network

Summit Clinical Research Solutions has acquired Dallas Research Institute through its Pinnacle Clinical Research site network, expanding its clinical-trial operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth market.

Dallas Research Institute, founded in 2024, conducts clinical trials involving metabolic and liver-related diseases, including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis and obesity.

The acquisition adds a third Pinnacle site in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Summit said the deal expands its capabilities in metabolic and liver disease research.

Pedro Castillo Jr., a physician board-certified in internal medicine and rheumatology, will remain the site’s principal investigator following the transaction. Castillo has served in the role since the institute’s founding.

Dallas Research Institute was established as a joint venture between Summit and the late Stephen Harrison, a co-founder of Summit and Pinnacle. The companies did not disclose the ownership structure of the venture before the acquisition.

Summit Clinical Research Solutions is a clinical research organization that operates through Pinnacle Clinical Research, an integrated clinical-site network. LongueVue Capital, a private-equity firm, is Summit’s owner.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis are liver conditions associated with metabolic risk factors. Obesity is also a focus area for the acquired site.

The transaction brings Dallas Research Institute under the Pinnacle network while retaining its existing principal investigator.
