Endpoint Clinical has acquired Bluefin, a provider of clinical supply forecasting and planning technology.
Bluefin will continue to operate independently following the acquisition and will retain its open technology model, enabling it to work with randomization and trial supply management systems from multiple providers.
Bluefin’s platform is used to support clinical supply forecasting, scenario planning and decision-making for clinical trials. The technology uses trial data to help sponsors and contract research organizations plan and manage clinical supplies.
Endpoint Clinical provides randomization and trial supply management services for clinical studies. The company said the acquisition adds clinical supply forecasting and planning capabilities to its offerings.
The companies said they plan to connect Bluefin’s supply-planning technology with Endpoint’s trial-execution capabilities. This includes integrating supply plans with information on clinical trial enrollment, inventory movement and randomization and trial supply management operations.
Andy Maltun, Bluefin’s co-founder and chief executive officer, will continue to lead Bluefin.
Endpoint said it will provide Bluefin with global project management, implementation, quality and customer-support resources. Bluefin’s forecasting and planning technology will remain available to users of different randomization and trial supply management platforms.
The acquisition brings together Endpoint’s trial supply management operations and Bluefin’s clinical supply planning technology. The companies said the combined capabilities are intended to help automate supply forecasting and planning processes for clinical trials.
