NanoImaging Services and Proteos have combined under the name TrueCourse Biosciences, creating a U.S.-based contract research organization focused on structural biology, protein science and experimental validation for drug-discovery programs.
The newly integrated company will be led by Chief Executive Officer Lindsey Gottler, who previously held scientific and leadership positions at Proteos, including director of the Protein Purification Group and chief scientific officer.
TrueCourse brings together NanoImaging Services’ cryo-electron microscopy capabilities and Proteos’ protein-production work. The company will provide services intended to help pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies evaluate drug targets and candidates as artificial intelligence and computational methods generate a growing number of potential programs.
Its offerings include protein production for structural biology, biophysics, assay development and toxicology studies. The company also provides biolayer interferometry and surface plasmon resonance assays to assess binding interactions between drug candidates and targets.
Additional capabilities include single-particle analysis using cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography and cryo-transmission electron microscopy. Cryo-TEM can be used to characterize the size, morphology and structural integrity of nanoparticle formulations, including lipid nanoparticles and viral vectors.
The company said it will use structural-biology and biophysical methods to support wet-lab validation of computationally generated drug candidates. Such work can assess how biological targets and potential medicines behave experimentally before developers decide whether to advance a program.
Gottler will oversee the company’s launch and growth strategy. Giovanna Scapin has been appointed chief scientific officer.
