Serán Bioscience has secured a growth investment led by Biospring Partners to expand its pharmaceutical development and manufacturing operations in Bend, Oregon. Existing investors Vivo Capital and Bain Capital Life Sciences, along with Serán executives, also participated.
Serán plans to complete a new commercial manufacturing facility in the third quarter of 2027. The facility will add capacity for particle engineering, including spray drying and nano-milling, as the company expands from clinical-stage work into commercial manufacturing.
The new building will also support production of finished medicines through processes such as granulation, tableting, coating and encapsulation. Its plans include dry-powder filling for inhaled products and manufacturing for oral and pulmonary delivery. Serán said the facility will be equipped to handle materials within the OEB4 occupational exposure band.
The project is next to a recently completed packaging and logistics facility that the company said will provide packaging, labeling, serialization and cold-chain distribution. Together, the facilities are expected to form a Bend campus of more than 200,000 square feet.
Serán currently employs more than 200 people, including more than 150 scientists and engineers. It said it may hire up to 150 additional employees as the expansion proceeds.
Chief Executive Dan Smithey said the investment will support completion of the new facility and an expansion of Serán’s services from early development through commercial supply.
