Ensera Launches Injectable Drug-Device Alliance Network

Ensera has launched an alliance network with five companies involved in device platforms and injectable drug manufacturing. The Dublin-based contract development and manufacturing organization said the network is intended to help pharmaceutical customers coordinate work on drug-device combination products.

The Ensera Alliance Network includes injector platform providers SHL Medical, Stevanato Group and Ypsomed. Argonaut Manufacturing Services and American Injectables participate as fill-and-finish specialists.

A combination product can require separate suppliers for the delivery device, sterile drug filling, final assembly and packaging. Ensera said the network will connect participants across those stages so they can coordinate work on individual customer programs.

Bobby O’Connor, Ensera’s chief commercial officer, said handovers between suppliers can complicate the move toward commercial production. Darren Hieber, the company’s vice president of alliance partnerships, said the network draws on existing relationships among the participants to identify and address challenges during that process.

The arrangement is non-exclusive. Ensera and each member remain independent companies, and customers can work directly with any participant rather than obtaining services through the network.

Ensera specializes in commercialization support for injectable drug programs. The alliance focuses on the later stages of preparing combination products for commercial supply, when device selection, filling operations, assembly and packaging must be brought together.

The company plans to add other organizations to the network as it develops. Its current members cover injector platforms and fill-and-finish services, while Ensera said the broader effort is designed to support coordination through final assembly and packaging.

The launch formalizes a group of suppliers that pharmaceutical developers can engage as they prepare injectable medicines paired with delivery devices for market.
