Codis has completed demolition and begun construction on an expansion at its Haverhill, United Kingdom, site that will add commercial-scale spray drying capacity for pharmaceutical manufacturing.
The contract development and manufacturing organization is installing a GEA Pharma-SD type PSD-4 solvent-capable spray dryer. The additional capacity is expected to become available in the final quarter of 2027, following installation and validation.
Demolition of redundant facilities cleared space for a new building. The project will use existing infrastructure at Haverhill, where Codis operates a 100,000-square-foot facility that follows current good manufacturing practices.
The dryer will support solvent-based production of amorphous solid dispersions, or ASDs. Codis said the equipment will allow pharmaceutical customers developing poorly soluble drug candidates to move into larger-scale manufacturing.
The expansion also links Haverhill’s manufacturing operations with services at the company’s Nottingham site. Those include formulation development, analytical testing, clinical supply and oral solid dose capabilities.
Together, the two sites support drug programs from early formulation work through commercial-scale spray drying, according to the company.
Nick Hodgson, vice president and general manager of Haverhill operations, said using the existing site’s infrastructure would support the capacity increase while drawing on established capabilities and staff expertise.
Codis said the project remains on schedule. Its next stated milestone is the dryer’s Factory Acceptance Test, which is due in November.
The investment focuses on expanding the company’s commercial-scale solvent-based spray drying operations. Codis specializes in spray drying, amorphous solid dispersions and advanced particle engineering, serving pharmaceutical customers through its development and manufacturing services network.
