Adalvo Acquires Enzene’s Romiplostim Biosimilar Program

Adalvo has acquired global rights to Enzene’s romiplostim biosimilar program, while the Pune-based company will retain responsibility for development and manufacturing as it shifts toward a business focused entirely on biologics contract services.

Enzene will continue producing the medicine at its facilities in Pune, India, and support regulatory submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, European Medicines Agency and other international authorities. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The biosimilar references Amgen’s Nplate, a weekly injectable treatment for adult and chronic pediatric immune thrombocytopenia, a disorder characterized by low platelet counts. The reference medicine generated approximately $1.5 billion in worldwide sales in 2025, according to the companies.

Enzene uses microbial cell line technology to manufacture its biosimilar. The company has advanced the product from cell line development through regulatory approval and commercial supply in India.

The agreement expands Switzerland-headquartered Adalvo’s business beyond specialty generics, peptides and brands into complex biologic medicines. Adalvo says it works with more than 170 pharmaceutical partners across over 140 countries.

Chief Executive Anil Okay said biosimilars form part of Adalvo’s long-term growth strategy and expressed interest in extending its relationship with Enzene beyond romiplostim.

Enzene is transferring its biosimilar pipeline to commercial partners while concentrating on contract development and manufacturing. Its capabilities include cell line development, process development, clinical supply and commercial production.

Chief Executive Himanshu Gadgil said Adalvo would take responsibility for bringing romiplostim to international markets, with Enzene continuing as its development and manufacturing partner. Enzene operates facilities in India and the United States for biologics work.
